MEADOWLARK BOTANICAL GARDENS: PART 3

So many beautiful flowers and trees.

The daffodils were still blooming, but starting to wilt. I spotted some interesting ones I've never seen before that almost looked like roses, as well as a few really tiny ones I don't think I've never seen before either.

I'm not sure what these little blue flowers are, but they were so pretty and there were a lot of them in the grass.

Along the way we saw a couple of Canada geese out for a walk (I was only able to get a shot of one), and a little turtle sitting on a rock in the pond.

The cherry blossoms seemed to have reached their peak, and I was surprised to see some tulips blooming in one corner of the garden. I wonder why only in that spot?

As we walked back towards the Visitors Center we saw this giant chess board with life-size pieces on it. I wonder if anyone actually plays a game on it.

It was a lovely day, and I look forward to visiting again.

MEADOWLARK BOTANICAL GARDENS: PART 2

Armed with egg hunt sheets and crayons the girls were ready for the scavenger hunt, so off we went.

Object: Find 12 giant eggs, copy the pattern of each one onto one of the blank eggs on the egg hunt sheet, and return the completed sheet to a staff member in exchange for a prize.

While the girls were busy looking for eggs, I was so busy getting sidetracked by cute stuff like this little pig with wings that I only got shots of a few of the eggs.

MEADOWLARK BOTANICAL GARDENS: PART 1

Today was a beautiful day to be out and about, and my daughter took me, my granddaughter, and my two great-granddaughters on an outing to Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, Virginia.

It was something I had been wanting to do ever since seeing Denise's (from An English Girl Rambles) posts about it.

There was so much to see, I'm going to need to turn this into a three-part series.

One of the reasons we took the great-granddaughters along was because of the Spring Egg Scavenger Hunt (see Part 2).

While they were registering for it, I got sidetracked by an interesting art exhibit--From The Ground Up--featuring the works of Miriam Cutelis. She creates her artwork using a combination of paints and materials headed for the landfill.

These are a few of my favorites.

BEAUTIFUL SPRING: PART II

These pictures were actually taken last weekend (the day after I posted my Part I post)

It was another beautiful day, and I asked my daughter if she would consider going on a walk with me to see what was blooming on the other side of town.

She was agreeable and so off we went, and with her encouragement and the help of my rollator I was able to push myself to keep on keeping on for all of 5,739 steps.

I definitely felt it the next day, but was so glad we got to do it before these particular colors were all gone.
