JUMBLED EMOTIONS

---------------------------

My mind is full of jumbled emotions. I've been feeling stuck, tired, and overwhelmed, and very down on myself for feeling this way. My cares seem so petty in the big scheme of things, it shames me to even think of them as such. This morning's devotion from Streams in the Desert could not have been more timely.

"'Why must I go about mourning?' (Psalm 42:9)

"Dear believer can you answer the above question? Can you find any reason why you are so often mourning instead of rejoicing? Why do you allow your mind to dwell on gloomy thoughts? Who told you that night will never end in day? Who told you that the winter of your discontent would continue from frost to frost and from snow, ice, and hail to even deeper snow and stronger storms of despair?

"Don't you know that day dawns after night, showers displace drought, and spring and summer follow winter? Then have hope! Hope forever, for God will not fail you!" -- Charles H. Spurgeon

Good questions to focus on as the battle rages in my mind and I try to focus on my many blessings. God has never failed me yet, and I am grateful beyond words for His mercies that are new every morning, His unconditional love, and that He never gives up on me--even when I would long ago have given up on myself. I am also grateful for my amazing daughter who is one of the most caring people I know, as well as for the good friends who check in on me and encourage me even when I'm in isolation mode.

"Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God." (Psalm 42:5 ESV)

  1. Yes, God looks after each and every one of us. Can I ask why you have been feeling so low? Have you been ill? Has someone passed away?

    1. Nothing like that. Just financial and dental issues, pandemic related issues, and seeing what's happening to our country and around the world.

  3. I too have much remorse with the world in such chaos, but life goes on and the world keeps on turning. Look for a brighter day. It will come to you. Sooner than later, I hope.

    1. Thanks, Anni. I know it will, and the reality is that even the gloomy days have bright spots to be found in them if I'm looking.

  4. The world is in such a state of turmoil and disarray, it makes me very sad and upset that there doesn't seem to be an end to the hurt. I try to turn it over to, God, for He is my strength. You will be in my prayers. Beautiful thoughts today, and much needed for me as well, thank you for sharing.

  5. Thanks for the prayers, Barb. I guess we shouldn't be surprised at the state of the world since God's Word tells us it's to be expected in these last times. Fortunately, however, it also tells us how the story ends, and that is reason to rejoice.

  8. Good reminder to me. Listening to the news, dealing with things at work gets me feeling down and I need to remember to look to God!

  10. What you have shared in your post has gone perfectly together with what I have read in some writings I did a long time ago that I came across in my workroom this morning. God knows exactly how to speak to us and time and distance means nothing to Him. God bless you.

  11. This is very thought provoking. Than you for sharing it Sandra. Our world is very troubled but it always has been in one way or another. We just know about everything instantaneously nowadays. We need to keep our hope for better times. Life is a roller-coaster ride that's for sure. Wishing you only the very best.
