Word prompt--CITY
Five minutes to free write about it
---------------------------
My first thought was city lights. The way they welcome a traveler home.
I haven't traveled for a very long time, but still remember the sight of them out of my plane window as it got ready to land. Much further back even than that, I remember, as a six-year-old, standing amidst an excited group of passengers crowded around the deck rails of a freight ship entering New York Harbor after two months at sea.
Those memories trigger emotions I have no words to express
Two months at sea as a six year old must have tons of memories. I never thought of city lights the way you do. until now. Driving home to my folks always felt the same at night. It's beckoning...
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about city lights from a height. It looks so inviting and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how one word can evoke so many thoughts and memories?
ReplyDeleteCity Lights from a plane is such a beautiful picture.

Two months at sea?? Where did you go?
ReplyDeleteWe were on our way from India to the United States. There was a reason why it took so long, but I'm not sure--something to do with the war. Plus it was a freight ship.
Deletethe war!
DeleteIt feels funny to read that, like it was so long ago. But it wasn't.
It's always beautiful...seeing city lights!!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the lights of the city in the nighttime as well. Very welcoming!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing city lights from a height too especially from a plane.
ReplyDeleteI miss traveling so much.
Happy Tuesday, Sandra.
I love seeing city lights from above the clouds...the best journeys always bring you home. I can't even imagine the memories you must have had as a 6 year old...glad you are here.
ReplyDeleteVery poignant memories of you as a 6 year old coming home. I always have a warmth seeing that first landmark when returning home.
