A LENTEN CHALLENGE

This Facebook memory made me think of a challenge our pastor gave us nine Lents ago--Instead of giving something up for Lent this year, do something radical.

My response was to write a blog post entitled Sincerely Wrong, in which, for the first time since becoming a Christian, I openly shared about my New Age past, and about having authored a book on numerology.

As I wrote, I became convicted that this was not enough. It was time to bring all the other things I didn't talk about into the open as well, because just maybe, there was someone out there who needed to hear it.

At first the thought was daunting, because I was a very private person, and in order to tell my whole story there were things I would need to write about that I had been too ashamed to tell anyone. But what I learned through the process was that once you bring the hidden things out into the open, they lose their power over you. It's a very freeing experience.

By that September (2011), I had penned and published a memoir that included the full testimony of how the Lord rescued me from the darkness I'd immersed myself in. It is available in paperback and electronic formats from Amazon, Barnes and Noble.com, and Google Play.

  4. "But what I learned through the process was that once you bring the hidden things out into the open, they lose their power over you." Yes, yes, yes!! I just want to give you a great big hug! About three years ago the Lord opened my eyes to this truth and I was finally able to be completely open and honest about my past and when I was it lost all it's power and I was truly able to be free and God was able to do his healing work in my life and continues to. Your book is now on my "to read" list!

    Love,
    Annie :)

  5. Very profound, and so true! Once you bring the hidden things out into the open, they lose their power over you. Brilliant! Now we need to put that into practice. Thank you for the very important reminder.

  6. How true, Sandy! It's only when we open up all the dark secret places of our heart to Him that He is able to flood the deep places of our life with His love.

    God Bless!
