CHRISTMAS SWEATER

Word prompt--CHRISTMAS SWEATER
Five minutes to free-write about it
-------------------------------------------------------

Just wondering how the tradition of calling Christmas sweaters "ugly Christmas sweaters" came about. I've had several Christmas sweaters over the years, but never considered any of them ugly. I don't even think this picture of a Christmas sweater Andrew posted is ugly. To me it looks colorful and festive.

Anyway, that led to a totally unrelated thought of a post I had written a very long time ago on a now defunct blog. It was about a big old turkey vulture I had spotted sitting on top of a roof. I had added the word "ugly" to my description of it, and one friend commented that she bet his mama didn't think he was ugly, and another, that all God's critters are beautiful. They were both right.

Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. It's all a matter of perspective.

  2. I feel the same about the sweaters. We have a party coming up and are supposed to wear an ugly sweater. We'll see what people come up with.
Very good point about beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

  4. Absolutely a matter of perspective...
In my opinion turkey vultures are Ugly..sorry to its Mama ...
Some Christmas sweaters are rather garish and could be considered Ugly. But it's all in fun and a good excuse to wear something one wouldn't usually wear.
    Have a great weekend.

  8. I love your perspective! 🌟 I agree—what some call "ugly" sweaters are really just full of festive charm. And I never thought of turkey vultures that way, but yes, every creature has its own beauty. Your post is a lovely reminder that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder! 🦃✨🎄

  9. A lot of these so-called ugly sweaters I find really nice. As for the vulture, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think of them as nature's clean-up crew that prevent diseases from spreading. They also are really beautiful in flight. I love to watch them soaring.
