Word prompt--STUFF
Five minutes to free-write about it
-------------------------------------------------------
Despite the many times I have downsized, I still have way too much stuff. There are also growing piles of stuff cluttering my bedroom floor in the form of paperwork that needs to be completed or filed away, newspapers and magazines I've been meaning to read, and projects started but not yet completed.
Although my intention is to set a timer for a half hour or an hour every day and work on clearing up as much as I can during that time, it hasn't happened.
Now it's already into December, and as much as I wanted to have some signs of Christmas in my apartment, the thought of one more thing to do seemed overwhelming, as did the thought of then having to take it all down and put it away in a few weeks. So I compromised.
I just took out a few of my favorite things and kept it super simple this year. A Charlie Brown tree a friend gave me several years ago, a Nativity to remind me of the reason for the season, and a few odds and ends to grace the top of my piano. It looks very peaceful and uncluttered, and I am very happy with the results.
oh, it looks great! FMF11
ReplyDeleteIt is very lovely. And instead of being so cluttered that you can't really focus on one thing, each item is even more special.
ReplyDeleteYour decorations look very pretty! Decluttering is something we have to do. It is overwhelming but something that is way overdue. Happy day to you my friend :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks very nice! And a good reminder of the real reason we celebrate.
ReplyDeleteGreat decorating..Simple is wonderful.

I also have started to do more of a simple decorating.. we do like it because we focus more on our favorite items we have out on display.

Outside we have a brush-pile,
ReplyDeletekindling for the fireplace.
This year we gave it Christmas style
and I might add, a touch of grace
with some sparkly strings of lights,
and a cross and angel, too
that would shine through frosty nights,
a pleasant and relaxing view,
except it's here that dogs abound
and race unfettered 'round the yard,
and in exuberance they've found
that it is not so very hard
to adorn themselves with Christmas cheer
to welcome in the coming year.
I totally get how stuff just keeps piling up, no matter how much we downsize! Keeping things simple for the holidays sounds like the perfect solution. Your peaceful Christmas setup with a Charlie Brown tree and Nativity sounds lovely.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings, Sandra
I can sure relate to being overwhelmed by the things that I meant to clean up already but haven't. I love your simple Christmas decor! Visiting (late) from FMF#9
ReplyDeleteI love how you embraced simplicity and peace with your holiday decor. Sometimes less truly is more! You’re invited to read my blog posts!
ReplyDeleteI smiled when I read this post Sandra, it reminded me of my husband telling me that my workroom needs sorting out - too much stuff in it he says :-) So I tell him that his garage needs sorting out, he understands why I am saying that, and we have a laugh. He was a mechanic all his working life, and keeps many tools, which are very handy if things happen to our car. My workroom contains things that I have written over the years, that I can use on my blog.
ReplyDeleteI guess there are times to let it pile up and times to tidy it up? I had grandchildren here today and my living room is festooned with shiny paper-chain decorations and lights covering walls and ceiling. I shall enjoy it for what it is, because it was such fun to make! :D Maybe one day it will be more simple? Merry Christmas. I love your nativity figures.
ReplyDeleteSimple is good!! I think we absorb the meaning more when things are simple and uncluttered. Thanks for sharing, Sandra
ReplyDeleteIt looks cozy. Yes, do you have a lot of stuff too? I do as well!
